Lighthouse Sculpture Being Made at Walt Disney World

On June 14, 2016, Lane Thomas Graves was attacked by a alligator while playing by the water's edge at Disney's Grand Floridian and Spa. Unfortunately the toddler was found deceased not far away from where the attack took place. The gator was caught and handled appropriately in response to the attack. Since then, Disney has placed gates and fences where they see necessary warning guests about gators and other creatures. A rock wall was also built at the edge of seven seas lagoon to prevent guests from going in.

The Graves family did not sue the park or the company but instead created the "Lane Thomas Foundation" in his honor.

The foundation was not only made to support Lane but to continue supporting families the way they were during their time of need.

It is not known when the statue will be installed or what it will say but the president of Walt Disney World issued a statement.

"To Provide continued  awareness of the foundation and its mission, we've commissioned an original sculpture of the lighthouse the foundation uses as a symbol of love and hope, to be installed on our property this summer."- George A. Kalogridis

  1. Although I believe this is a wonderful thing for Disney to do, I have to wonder if seeing this by the family will continue to open that wound of them losing their child. I feel like this will be a constant reminder to them of that tragic event. I will continue to pray for peace for that family.
