Thoughts on Guardians attraction and possible future of DCA
Now normally i do opinion pieces but when something is majr i like to look at both sides and discuss it in a healthy manner. In a healthy debate if you will. so i am open to all opinions regarding the news but for now here is my own.
Now call me a pixie duster if you want but i am very excited for the upcoming guardians attraction. (granted i do not always agree with the business decisions regarding the parks that disney makes so idk if i can be called one).
I would like to dispel a few things people have concerns about regarding this announcement.
To start, it was always the DCA tower that was going to change. never the original tower at DHS or Paris's version. Paris is already testing projections on its tower for the upcoming "Star Wars: season of the force" that will be happening there starting next year. Also, it would make no sense to touch the original. DCA has a bigger plan in store for it which is why they decision was made for it to be there.
To add, im sorry but DCA's tower is not a classic attraction. It is just not. People are so quick to throw around the word classic when an attraction is closing and to some extent yes some can be considered classic. Malestrom for example can be considered classic. that attraction opened in 1988. I cannot agree that DCA tower is a classic as it opened in 2004. I am older than the actual attraction.
Then we have Joe Rohde, the lead designer of Animal Kingdom and Aulani leading the project. This gives me much comfort as this man is a genius at disney. he was there when EPCOT was being designed and worked on various parts of the park regarding design.
Disney has also stated this is just the beginning. meaning they plan to have more attractions like this open in DCA. this means there is a new vision coming together for a possible marvel land in DCA. There should not be too much opposition to this in my opinion as there currently stands Carsland and it is one of the most popular places in DCA to visit. The same can happen for a marvel themed land in DAC i feel.
My only concern with this project is the timing. They said Tower will close January 2017 and the attraction will open in Summer 2017. That's a very short time frame to complete a brand new attraction of a seemingly huge magnitude. It took Frozen Ever After a year or two to be completed after maelstrom closed. So with what they are describing this attraction will be it's hard to believe they can complete it in this time frame. However i was told about this months ago almost back in may and was told they already had begun the plans back then and even had costumes already so idk how far along this truly has been in the works.
Also, they spent a great deal of money making hollywoodland fit the theme with trolley cars and BVS so it seems odd that they suddenly made this choice.
Nonetheless i am personally excited for the idea of a marvel land at DCA and this upcoming attraction.
