DVC Rental Info
So i have known about the idea of DVC rentals for a while but never really looked into it until recently. After researching it could be worth it to invest in for a Disney Vacation depending on budget and how much you are willing to spend. Most of my information comes from Mousesavers.com, a great source of info for saving money when visiting Disney parks, and DisneyTouristBlog, whom i'm a big fan of tbh.
As a DVC member, or Disney Vacation Club member, they receive timeshare points for their stay at various Disney resorts. When points are close to expiring some DVC owners rent out their points so at least they are being used rather than going to waste. When you compare this to directly reserving a stay through disney for deluxe resort you could save loads of money.
For example, I used David's DVC Rental's Cost Calculator, which btw is the go to place when renting DVC points. I used my upcoming WDW trip as an example. I will be visiting WDW for a total of 6 days, Sept 17-23 2016.

The cheapest i could get is a studio at Animal Kingdom for $798 which is bad because that is how much i am pretty much paying currently to stay at Pop Century for these same dates. Fortunately I am technically a DVC member through my father so i won't have to worry too much about this kind of thing. But he is not very punctual so i almost never stay at our home resort.
But let's say i wanted to stay here as a normal guest. A studio stay at Kidani Village at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas for the days i want would be $2,538 and that includes tax and no ticket option. That's literally a $1,740 difference!
"Wow Victoria what do i need to know about this???"
Well i can share with you much of what i learned about this topic.
So you can use these rented points at the following resorts:
WALT DISNEY WORLD
- Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas
- Bay Lake Tower (my home resort)
- Beach Club Villas
- Boardwalk Villas
- Villas at Grand Floridian
- Old Key West Resort
- Saratoga Springs Resort
- Villas at Fort Wilderness
- Polynesian Villas and Bungalows
- Villas at Grand Californian
Disney's Aulani Resort and Spa
There are different types of units you can choose from which is why renting DVC points are a good deal for large families who want more space for less. The general public can stay at these resorts but at a much higher rate. There are 1, 2 and 3 bedroom villas to choose from. Check out options below!
There are a few services that you can rent DVC points through, such as David's DVC Rental that is safe to use however if you wish to do it privately with a DVC owner you will be more likely to be susceptible to fraud. It rarely happens but it can happen nonetheless.
Now of course there are some pros and cons to this strategy.
PROS
- For some, getting the Disney Dining Plan without having to purchase tickets is a big benefit, especially if you have large families. This allows you to purchase tickets from a verified broker like Undercover Tourist , which i will share more info about in a future post. Thus saving alot of money!
- You aren't entirely in control of the reservation. The DVC member must book for you and make any changes for you, whether your name is on the reservation or not.
- Housekeeping is not daily like at one of the Disney Hotels. Since it is a studio or villa , you will most likely get only one visit from housekeeping during your stay depending on the days. But you will have a kitchenette and laundry room in there so that's a plus for the most part.
- You have to book early! like almost a year in advance if you want something popular , like Beach Club. If you don't then the chance of you getting that resort is unlikely and if you do you will probably be paying a little bit more than you had to.
