Was "Disney After Dark" a Success?

Disney World announced their first upcharge event for the year that sparked quite  bit of outrage from fans.

They announced an event called "Disney After Dark" where guests had access to the parks after closing for 3 hours. Guests had access to several attractions and character experiences with little wait time as well as complimentary Ice cream and drinks from carts on Main Street!

The Price?

$150 for Adults and $150 for Children too.

Comparing this to Disney World's Halloween parties it is a bit overwhelming

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party Ticket Price for 2015 :

Advance purchase: Adults: $68 Children: $63
Day of Event: Adults : $74 Children :$69
Halloween: (whether you bought them online or day of): Adults: $87 Children : $82

So if you bought Halloween party tickets early you would still be paying $82 less than what you would be if you had attended the "Disney After Dark" event.

Based on what i am finding from last night's opening night, it is hard to tell if this event will be a success of a flop for Disney.

As i reported before, DVC members were given free admission to the event's first night as long as they were staying on property. This gave us the impression that the event did not sell very good at all.
Later on, i was told that this indeed was the case.

However upon looking into things from the event last night the opposite is being told from a few sources. Some are saying the event for yesterday evening was sold out at 3000 tickets. Of course one can assume this is due to bloggers and other curious reporters wanting to get the scoop first going the very first night. Also due to Disney giving away tickets to DVC members is another logical explanation to make it look as if it did well.

According to Inside the Magic, it was indeed very dead at the event, as was promised to guests who attended.

Wait times were never more than 10 mins according to others who attended and this happened way before the event even began at 11pm.

But the strange thing when i looked into this was that no one was really talking about online anywhere.

Most of the feedback i found was through comments left by fans and attendees on the very few posts about it that i found.

Some feedback was good.

One man commented:
I think it might work. Definitely geared towards the Disney fanatic like myself that has always dreamed of having the park to myself, no lines, multiple times on rides without getting off, no crowds to fight through, enjoys the look and feel of the park at night. If they keep it to this number of people with that many attractions open I would definitely do it.

An Employee commented saying:
The event was actually sold out. Max 3000 tickets. It's supposed to be quiet so that the lines stayed low. I worked it tonight and guests really enjoyed being able to literally stay on a ride as many times around as they wanted. You also got drinks and ice cream for free.

One attendee who took her family stated:
We were there and it was great! The park was almost empty, and almost all the rides were open with no wait! There was a limited number of tickets, so it was supposed to be this empty.

However among the many negative comments, a few stood out regarding the event:

One Lucky DVC member said:
We're dvc members and they gave a select number of dvc members a complimentary pass. Since we got it free, we thought we would try it out!
It was a really neat experience, but idk if I would pay $150 for it.

One Frequent visitor commented:
No wonder it's EMPTY..... WhY pay for Extra for something that has always came included with Resort Stay......we go to Disney every year....we've paid for Halloween party (2 times in each visit) every time we've gone and we do Christmas party as well...BuT when you start "charging" for what is a new branding for EMH that is just greedy

Another fan pointed out:
That's because it's ridiculously overpriced for essentially just going on rides in the dark.... $150 a ticket? Nah. If it had another parade, special characters, special events and exclusive stuff then maybe, but it's an extortionate price for not worthy stuff.

So there were a few good points made by both sides but in the end, will this event survive?

And if it does what does that mean for the future of Extra Magic Hours?

What are your thoughts on Disney's upcharge events so far?
