Disneyland 60th ABC special Recap
Tonight was the showing of the Disneyland 60th Anniversary Special on ABC and everyone was quite excited about it. I will say that as i recap this information to remember that what was shown in the special was mostly aimed for people who don't know as much about Disney as the average fan is so much of the information to most people i know who were watching found the information they shared remedial. So i will try to keep everything objective as possible and save my opinions for the end.
The special opened with a black and white colored dance number at the entrance of Disneyland led by Derek Hough dancing with Witney Carson. Derek and Witney are dancers on ABC's Dancing with the Stars show and Derek was the host of the entire special. The moved the dance to Main Street USA that featured some floats from Disneyland's Paint the Night Parade with Pentatonix singing "Be our Guest " from Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
Afterwards they did the usual announcing of guest appearances which was very impressive for the most part the introduced the first musical act of the evening, which was Jessie J. She performed "When you wish upon a star" from Pinocchio. She performed it very well and I feel she was a good choice for this song. She did much better than her rendition of "Grease is the Word" from Grease Live.
Dame Helen Mirren came out as a presenter first wearing a pair of Disneyland Diamond Anniversary ears and a dress appearing to be covered in childrens' drawings. She introduced Walt Disney and how his dream of Disneyland came to be and the impact it has today in our culture.
This was followed by a video montage featuring celebrities Lupita , Dick Van Dyke, Sara Hyland. NPH and Helen sharing their thoughts on Disneyland accompanied with video showing the park in the past and present.
During the Commercial they showed a new trailer for the live action Jungle Book movie coming out on April 15th. During this time i downloaded the Disney applause app which was supposed to immerse you in the musical experiences of the show that was suggested during the show.

More commercials included the next season for once upon a time returning March 6th and Dancing with the Stars on March 21st.
TRAILER FOR OUAT
Hilary Duff spoke about tidbits regarding the trains at Disneyland and introduced a hidden Disney treasures segment led by Josh Gad. The segment included a look into the Disney Dream Suite.
Next the amazingly gorgeous John Stamos introduced the next musical act ,Fall Out Boy, who performed, "wanna be like you" from The animated Jungle Book movie, a definite tie in to the live action version's movie release. Personally i thought it was a great performance by FOB!
Bryce Dallas Howard came out next to present the pete's dragon teaser trailer. I have not had the pleasure of seeing the original but based on what i know and from reactions from people that it is quite a different take from the original.

Bryce afterwards introduced a Mickey Mouse historical segment.
Jimmy Kimmel comes out next with a lightsaber in hand wearing a dumbo ear hat and introduces Sir Elton John for his first musical performance of the evening, which was "Circle of Life" from the Lion King in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. It is possible in my opinion that they tested the use of drones carrying projection screens but more than likely they used the technology used for disneyland forever fireworks.
By this point the Disney applause app was not working for me and alot of people so i deleted it at that point from my phone.
It is important to point out that a man lifted his child into the air like baby simba during elton john's performance of circle of life.
Neil Patrick Harris introduces a segment explaining Disney's partnership with Make a wish foundation and explains the #shareyourears campaign. It is also important to note that NPH had a SPACESHIP EARTH PHONE CASE!!!!!!!
Kelsea Ballorini introduces Tori Kelly and Kermit the Frog as the next musical act singing "Rainbow Connection." I thought it was a nicely picked duo and she did the song justice. Very beautifully sung by kermit and Tori.
Eric Stonestreet and Nolan Gould of "Modern Family" introduce a segment including co-stars sharing their Disneyland tips which were :
Idina Menzel performed , what else but "Let it go" at Paradise Pier at DCA park. Personally it seemed like this performance of the song was soft and not as powerful as what we are used to when the song as sung. overall still a good performance.
The good dinosaur commercial is shown saying the movie comes out on DVD and Blu ray this week. Personally i wasn't too interested in the film and never saw it. another commercial features celebrities wearing ears for the #shareyourears campaign.
Alfonso from "Fresh Prince of Bel Air " and Witney Carson of DWTS introduces a dance segment that includes Kelsea B. , Neyo and Derek Hough. This was most likely a promo for the "we love disney" album that was released last year. Kelsea starts us off with part of your world with derek dancing with others in accompaniment. I feel kelsea started off soft but ended strong and sang beautifully. Neyo comes in singing "Friend like me" from Aladdin with his usual swag. Dancing was very well done. the final part of the number is step in time from Mary Poppins with a dance segent by Derek. There was a special appearance by Dick Van Dyke, star of Mary Poppins, who joins in the dance a bit and receives a well deserved standing ovation.
Harrison Ford comes out to introduce the Star wars land concepts for the Disney Parks and recieves a standing ovation. The concepts shown include the millennium falcon ride and the unnamed battle with the resistance ride. Dining was mentioned including the Cantina being confirmed. It was described as a completely immersive world.

Harrison introduces Star wars concert Live and BB8 starts us off by showing us a hologram image of a scene from The force awakens. The audience was given lightsabers to wave during the performance and no timeline was given for the completion of the lands,
Through the Looking Glass trailer shown, sequel to live action alice in wonderland. Time is revealed to be a male villain. The late alan rickman has a cameo as the caterpillar.

Little Big town performed a song in Carsland in DCA.
A segment about Disneyland's entertainment through the past and present presented by Whoopi Goldberg.
Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman introduces a clip from their film Zootopia, coming out March 4th. Then they introduce a segment on Disney Animation which includes Finding Dory.
Keither Sutherland introduces the LA philharmonic during the Fantasia segment to perform the sorcerer's apprentice.
Priyanka Chopra , star of Quantico, introduces the shanghai disney segment that shows video concept art of the park opening in June 2016.
Derek Hough introduces Elton John one more time for a musical performance with Fireworks accompanying him.

- keep it classic (ride the classic rides first)
- Hidden Mickeys
- Try the parks at night
- Paint the Night parade is a must do!
